Types of Decoration

There are several ways to decorate, customize and brand promotional products. The below is a guide to explain innovative ideas for different types of products. If you’d like to find out more about which options will work for you contact your Headline Rep for more information.

Direct-to-Garment (DTG) Printing

Direct-to-garment, or commonly abbreviated as DTG, is a method of printing directly on t-shirts without the use of screens as used with screen printing. Think of your home inkjet printer, but for apparel. By foregoing the screens required for screen printing, DTG allows a much quicker process to print your shirts, meaning smaller minimum quantities are practical. Since a separate screen has to be created for each print color in a screen printed design, it can take from 30 minutes to over an hour to create all the necessary screens for screen printing. With DTG, the entire design prints all at once with no screens. This makes the process much simpler.

Transfer Print

A transfer is created in a very similar method to screen printing, however, the ink is applied to a sheet of transfer paper instead of directly onto the material. The transfer is then pressed onto the product using a combination of heat and pressure. This method allows for unlimited colour separations that always require an underlay. Many products utilize this process as it assists in decorating products with foam insulation or hard to screen print locations.

Silk Screen

Silk Screen Printing is the process of infusing ink through a mesh screen to imprint your design on our collections of Bags, Drinkware and Home products.

Embroidery

Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Today, embroidery is most often seen on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn color and is an elegant and stylish way to portray a wide range of logo types. Embroidery is the perfect decorating method to add value to your purchase.

Pad Printing

Pad Printing is extremely effective on rounded, uneven, or slanted product shapes. It is also perfect for small and intricate logos. A silicone pad is used to transfer the ink onto the product. The pad can hit various levels on a product at one time. Ink colour availability is restricted due to the limited ability to mix inks utilized in this process. Pad printing is utilized on products such as: plastics, pens, aluminum, tins, rubber, cardboard gift boxes, metal, vinyl, leather and paper pad banners. Please see product page and click on 'view decorating information' to view ink colour availability for pad print items.

Laser

Your logo attains a refined and elegant look with engraving. The logo is carved directly into the surface using a laser. The even and clean lines create a novel and detailed logo. Laser Engraving is most common on wood products and metal products, such as carabiners.

Debossing

Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images into the material and creating an impression of the logo. An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material (but might protrude somewhat on the reverse, back side).Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images into the material and creating an impression of the logo. Etch Engraving

This ‘cutting edge’ technology is very similar to laser engraving, but instead of a laser aimed at the product, the actual item is etched with a diamond tip. This creates an extremely crisp finish. Computerized engraving is used on our pens, aluminum, wine opener levers, and plates.
